Meet The Team

Dr. Paul Fjeldsted

Dr. Paul Fjeldsted heads the La Mesa Hills Dentistry office on University Avenue in La Mesa. He and the rest of the La Mesa Hills Dentistry team share a passion for providing patients with the highest quality of dentistry in a comfortable and family orientated environment. Dr. Fjeldsted received his training from the University of Southern California Dental School and completed his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. His training in biomimetic dentistry allows him to use the latest technology to implement conservative and preventative procedures. His goal is to establish a relationship of trust with all of his patients by understanding their individual needs and expectations. He is well versed in the plethora of services offered by La Mesa Hills Dentistry. From porcelain veneers to dental implants, Dr. Fjeldsted can do it all. Though he was raised in the San Francisco bay area, Dr. Fjeldsted is really a Southern Californian at heart. An avid surfer, he enjoys catching waves any chance he gets. Dr. Fjeldsted enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. He also enjoys playing the guitar, snowboarding, biking, and cheering on USC football.
Dr. Fjeldsted is a member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association and the San Diego Dental Society.

Dr. Hannah Hurley

Dr. Hurley grew up in a small Mississippi River town just outside of St. Louis, Missouri. She completed her undergraduate education at Saint Louis University before moving to San Francisco to attend the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. Dr. Hurley loved living in the Bay Area. She spent her free time trying the multitude of different restaurants within the city and traveling with classmates to National Parks across the west coast.

In dental school Dr. Hurley excelled in her studies, leading her to graduate with high honors in the top 10 of her class. She earned multiple excellence awards for her dentistry along with an academic scholarship from the United States Navy. Most notably, Dr. Hurley was voted “laugh heard around the world” as her vibrant laugh always alerted her classmates that she was present in the clinic!

Upon graduation, Dr. Hurley reported to her first naval duty station in San Diego. She immediately fell in love with the area and knew she wanted to return one day. Dr. Hurley then served two years at the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Arizona. During her time as a dental officer, Dr. Hurley met some of the kindest and most selfless people. She feels very privileged to have cared for our country’s exceptional servicemembers. Her military service will always remain one of the most influential periods of her life.

Dr. Hurley is excited for the next phase of her career in which she can continue to grow and challenge herself professionally. She loves getting to know her patients and acting as a resource for all their dental needs. She strives to make her patients feel comfortable and supported during what she understands can be a stressful experience for some.

Outside of dentistry Dr. Hurley enjoys any outdoor activity. She spends her free time traveling, weight lifting, paddle boarding, cooking, camping, and hiking on the many trails around San Diego. Dr. Hurley is also an avid reader and is always looking for new book recommendations!

Joleonard Brown (AKA Handsome Jo)

After serving his country as a member of the US Navy for seven years, Jo now serves the fine patients of La Mesa Hills Dentistry. Jo is well versed in digital radiography, teeth polishing and fabricating temporary dental restorations… and yes, he is very gentle. In his free time, Joe is a professional fantasy football athlete.

Natalie Keefe

Hi I’m Natalie, the office manager. My goal is to make your visit to our office PERFECT in every way. Every patient deserves a healthy, beautiful smile. I will work with you personally to help you accomplish your oral health goals. In my free time, I am a connoisseur of fine high heel shoes.

Rita Vargas

Rita is the pretty face you see when you first arrive. She is an expert at scheduling, billing insurances, chatting on the phone and having fun. She is always willing to share a taste of her lunch with you – just ask 🙂

JonaRegistered Dental Hygienist

Meet Jona, one of La Mesa Hills Dentistry’s awesome registered dental assistant. Jona graduated from Brightwood College in 2017. Her hobbies include binge-watching movies/tv shows and spending time with her two daughters. Her goal is to make your experience with us a pleasant & happy one. She loves seeing patients leave knowing they are walking away with the most beautiful smile and she was able to assist in making it possible.

Born and raised in San Diego, I attended Mater Dei Catholic High School, Southwestern College, and then Concorde Career College where I obtained a degree in Dental Hygiene. Growing up, my mom was a Dental Assistant and has been my main inspiration in entering into the dental field. I followed in her footsteps and became a Dental Hygienist to have a positive impact on my community by helping to promote healthy, beautiful smiles. I believe in individualized dental hygiene care and aim to create a relaxed, warm environment for my patients. My favorite part about my day is connecting with patients and making them laugh any chance I get. I can make you smile.. like it’s my job! On my days off, I love hanging out at the beach, going to concerts, hiking, trying new restaurants, and spending quality time with friends and family.

Pahoua LeeDental Hygienist

I was born and raised in Des Moines, IA and moved to San Diego 10 years ago. I was a dental assistant for 8 years before becoming a dental hygienist. I love educating patients on their oral health care to help keep their smiles healthy for a lifetime. I am also a member of the California Dental Hygienists’ Association. On my days off, I enjoy catching up with friends over brunch, cooking dinner for my family, and cuddling with my two dogs.
