Periodontal Therapy
- What is periodontal disease and how bad is it? The stages of periodontal disease can range from gum inflammation, gingivitis, to a more serious stage that damages the soft tissue and bone so badly that your teeth become loose.
- What causes gum disease? In short: the build-up of bacteria in your mouth. This can stem from not taking proper care of your teeth, which allows plaque to form on your teeth. Over time the soft plaque turns into tartar that can’t be removed with brushing and flossing.
- How do I know if I have periodontal disease? Some red flags to look for include consistent bad breath, swollen and tender gums, bleeding gums, painful chewing, and loose and/or sensitive teeth.
- How will periodontal disease be treated? If caught early, periodontal disease can be managed well. If left untreated, periodontal disease can prompt tooth loss and also worsen a variety of systemic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.
